First skiers hit the trails

Menihek Nordic has had it's first skiers for this ski season. On Wednesday, October 24th, Pamela O'Keefe and Stephanie Corbett, both members of the Provincial Ski Team, donned their skis for a trip around the 5km trail. The conditions aren't great yet and you have to be on the watch for rocks and twigs that aren't completely snow covered, but both girls enjoyed the adventure. Not to be outdone by the younger crowd, Wilburt Stoyles and Brian Gale ,two of our "not so young skiers", ventured out the following day for their maiden voyage on the 5k m trail. On Sunday, October 28th, Alf Parsons took several of our race team skiers out for a training session on the trail system. We also had our first visiting skier on that day in the person of a visiting doctor from Bear Cove, Nf., who was working at the hospital for that week.

As of November 1st the chalet office will be open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm. Memberships are available for the present ski season and can be obtained at the chalet office. Our first Jackrabbit registration was held on Saturday, November 3rd from 1-4pm at the chalet. A second registration will be held on Saturday, November 10th, from 1-4pm at the chalet and will be on a first come, first serve basis. The program is for kids aged 4-13 yrs. and runs each Saturday from 1-3pm. during ski season.

The annual "Toast to the Trails" will be a family BBQ on Saturday, November 10th. This is the kick-off for the ski season and we invite all club members and guests to come and help us celebrate. Coals will be ready at 6pm so pack up the grub and come enjoy the cozy atmosphere of the A-Frame.

Watch the Aurora for announcements about upcoming club events and socials.
