Menihek Nordic Holds Annual "Toast to the Trails"
The chalet was alive with families and friends as the first Family BBQ to signify the official opening of the 2001-2002 ski season was held on Saturday, November 10th. Over forty-five people packed up their grub and came up to enjoy an evening of food, fun and conversation. Club president, Gerry Rideout, took the opportunity to welcome everyone and say a few words about the upcoming season .
The provincial team will be arriving on November 24th to start the Fall Training Camp. The camp will run until December 2nd with the Labrador Open Races on Friday, November 30th and Saturday, December 1st. These races are open to all skiers. For more information about the races call Rhonda Lawrence at 944-5842.
The Jackrabbit Ski Program should be underway by the time this hits the paper. Saturday, November 17th, was set as the date to start the program. We held registration on two Saturdays in November and had over forty kids register. If you wish to register for the remaining spots in the program you may do so during the week at the ski chalet. We will not be registering skiers on Saturday. The annual Junior Development Christmas Part will be held on December 15th and is open to all Jackrabbits.
Please exercise caution when skiing this time of the season. We do not have an over abundance of snow yet and some rocks and twigs are still visible in some areas. The 5 km trail has been packed by skidoo this past week and is the only trail officially open right now. If more snow arrives soon you can call the chalet office for more up to date trail information. Once the ski season gets in full swing we will be having a waxing clinic at the club. Listen to local radio and the Aurora for dates and times.
Remember when you are on the trails to practice ski etiquette . If you stop on the trail for any reason, please move off to one side to allow other skiers to pass. If you approach another skier from behind, call out so they know you are there. If you take a snack out on the trail with you please bring all garbage back with you. A candy wrapper on the trail could cause another skier to take a tumble. Let's make this a safe ski season.
See you on the trails !!!
