Ski Season Underway
The first weekend in November was a busy one on the 5km trail with over twenty-five skiers venturing out for a run. This trail is the only one being used at this time and has been packed by skidoo. Once more snow has covered the trails we will start getting the other trails groomed. At present the trail is still a bit rough so please exercise caution when using it. It may take a few trips around the trail to get your balance back to what it should be so take it easy at first.
The chalet office will have winter office hours in effect starting November 4th. The office will be open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm. If you have already purchased your membership for this season you can drop into the chalet and pick up your membership tag. Tags are to be displayed when you are using the trails. If you have a locker , you are reminded that locker fees are $30.00 and are to be paid by November 30th.
Jackrabbit registration was held over three weekends and we presently have about twenty-five kids signed up. If you are interested in putting your child in this ski program, please call the chalet for more information. Watch for the announcement for the start up of this year's program.
Fall Training Camp begins on Saturday, November 23rd and runs to Sunday, December 1st. This year, along with the regular race team, we will also be hosting the Provincial Biathlon Team. While at the club, these two teams will be taking part in two races. The first will be on Friday, November 29th and the second on Saturday, November 30th. Local skiers are also encouraged to take part in these races. Many of the young people racing will be vying for possible spots on the Provincial teams going to the Canada Winter Games in Charlo, New Brunswick, in February 2003. We are looking for families who would be willing to billet a young person while they are here for camp. If you think you may be able to help us in this area, please call the chalet office at 944-5842 and leave your name.
Due to the start of the ski season we are requesting that walkers refrain from walking on the ski trails. We ask this for safety reasons as we do not want to have skiers and walkers colliding on the trails. The Menihek Interpretive Trail System will reopen again in the spring at the end of ski season.
The annual Toast To The Trails opening social is scheduled for Friday, November 15th starting at 7pm. This will be a potluck supper so get out your favorite recipes and cook up a scoff. Bring along your dancing shoes and we'll help get you in shape for the upcoming ski season.
Don't forget to buy your tickets on The Great Fish Fry. Tickets are 3 for $5.00 and can be purchased at the chalet, from several club members or watch for our table at I.G.A. in early November. The draw will take place on November 15th and the winner will have lots of fish for the rest of the winter. Along with the fish, you also win ten pounds of bakeapples and ten of blueberries and six bottles of wine. A feast fit for a king , or a queen.
