January 7, 2002

Old Man winter blessed us with lots of snow over the holidays and the trails are in great shape. All trails are open and groomed, including The Hole. Just a reminder that skiers are to have their membership tags displayed on their clothing when using the trails. If you are not a club member, day passes are available at the chalet office. If you have purchased a membership, either single ,senior or family, then you are permitted to take a friend for a free day of skiing, equipment included. Contact the chalet office for your free ski coupon if you haven't already received one. Only one coupon per membership and this must be presented on the day it is being used.

Our first Family BBQ for 2002 will be held on Sunday, January 13th, with the coals ready at 5:30pm. Pack up your supper and bring the family out for an evening of friendship , fun and food.

On January 12th and 13th the ski club will be hosting an Open House starting at 1pm. Free hot chocolate will be served. Go out for a ski, drop by the chalet for your hot chocolate and inquire about our waxing clinics, ski lessons and much more.

January 13th will also be our first Masters races of the season. Start time is 12pm with registration on Saturday, January 12th. These races are set so you can challenge yourself and have some racing against all the regulars you meet on the trails everyday. Masters races are open to anyone 35 years and over.

On December 29th and 30th young skiers took part in run off races to help select skiers to represent Labrador in the upcoming Newfoundland and Labrador Winter Games in Gander in February. We had a good turn out for these races and final selection will take place later this month. The team from Labrador will be made up of skiers from Labrador West plus skiers from the Labrador coast.

Please remember when skiing on our trail system to practice good ski etiquette. If you decide to remove your skis to walk down a hill that's too challenging, please remember to walk off to the side, rather than down the middle of the trail. If you stop on the trail, please move off to the side to allow other skiers to pass safely. Stop in an area that will allow approaching skiers to see you. Think safety when skiing.

See you on the trails.
