As a result of her three gold medal races at the Easterns in Charlo, New Brunswick, Stephanie Corbett has been picked for the Provincial Team heading to Canmore, Alberta ,in March. Also on the team is Melissa Noonan, Adam Chambers and Tristan Toope. The team will head to Alberta on March 2nd with races taking place on March 5th to March 10th.

The weekend of January 12th and 13th was the busiest at the chalet so far this ski season. On Saturday the parking lot was so full that vehicles were parked three deep at times. I can't remember ever seeing that many cars there at one time. The perfect weather has certainly helped and we hope to see even more skiers on the trails over the season. The lights are now on for night skiing and a lot of activity has been seen on the Vellos Trail in the evenings. This trail is now groomed for skating, as are all our trails. The only exception to this rule is the Around the Lake trail which will be double tracked for classical only on Saturdays for use by the Jackrabbit program. The double track is only on the first kilometre and a half of the trail ( To the intersection of the Birches trail ) and from there is it groomed for skating again.

Out Loppet office has opened at the Labrador Mall and is being looked after by Joanne Goulding. Registration for the Loppet will take place at the Mall Loppet office only. Registration forms and general Loppet information can be obtained at the office which is next to IGA. We are sharing office space with the Come Home Year committee. The phone number for the Loppet office is 944-6395 so feel free to contact Joanne with any questions you may have. Ski rentals are available for the Loppet as are rentals of our Polk Sleds . We only have four Polk Sleds so if you are interested in renting one for use in the Loppet please call soon to reserve it. The cost of renting skis or a sled for the Loppet is $10.00.

We have had our first Family BBQ for the season and it was a huge success with fifty-eight people showing up. The chalet was alive with little tykes running around having fun while Moms and Dads dished up supper. Call the chalet for information on the next Family BBQ night.

Alf Parsons will be having another waxing clinic on Sunday, January 20th at 11am. The cost of the clinic is $5.00 with all money going to the Junior Development program. Come up and learn from the pro and he will answer any questions you may have about waxing your own skiis.

See you on the trails.
