Off To The Races

The Annual Fall Training Camp is over for another year and the weather couldn't have been better. The seventeen skiers from all over Newfoundland enjoyed the sunshine and mild temperatures while they trained on the Menihek trails. Two races were held while they were at the local club and the results will be posted in this week's paper The top male racer for both days was our own Alf Parsons , while top honours for the women when to Rhonda Lawrence.

Work has started on the lights on the Vello's Trail and the trail should be ready for night skiing sometime in the second week of December. With the exception of the Birches, all trails are groomed and open. The birches trail requires a bit more snow before it can be used. Skiers have been taking advantage of the mild temperatures this past week and the chalet has been very busy.

The Jackrabbit program still has openings for young skiers. If your child is between the ages of 4 and 13 and you think they might enjoy skiing, why not enroll them in this program. They will be taught the basics of cross country skiing in a fun atmosphere. The program runs each Saturday from 1-3pm. Come check us out. On Saturday, December 14th, the Jackrabbit program will be having a Christmas party for the kids.

On December 28th and 29th the ski club will be holding a Christmas Ski Camp. Further details about this camp can be obtained by calling Alf Parsons or Rhonda Lawrence at the chalet office 944-5842.

Don't forget to display your ski tag on your clothing when using the trails. If you haven't purchased your membership yet you can do so at the chalet. Office hours are 9-5pm every day of the week.

WHY JOIN A SKI CLUB?

The Menihek Nordic Ski Club has much to offer its members. You will gain access to some of the most scenic trails to be found anywhere, and a lit trail that you can ski on until 11 pm each night. The log chalet offers a cozy atmosphere in which to take part in the many club socials and family BBQs that are held throughout the ski season. There is a Jackrabbit program for the children each Saturday and waxing clinics are offered several times during the season. You have access to ski instruction through private ski lessons. Cross-country skiing is a healthy and popular winter activity. It is a sport that can be enjoyed by the entire family from the young to the not-so-young. If you are new to the area or someone who has never been to the Menihek Nordic Ski Club, feel free to drop by our chalet anytime. We have information brochures available, along with trail maps and much more.
