Legend has it that many, many years ago a mail ship out of Boston was wrecked off of Branch. The ship, bound for Ireland, supposedly had amongst its cargo; money and treasures being sent home from the United States by Irish immigrants.  It is said that the first man to board the ship found a chest of money and other valuables which he removed and buried for safekeeping. For unknown reasons this treasure became known as the RAHEE.

It is also said that in 1952 when the new road was being built a rusted iron strongbox with its bottom rusted out was found. The box was reburied and its location remains a mystery.

“Through this event we look forward to helping share some of Branch’s finest treasures with families participating in Branch Come Home Year. We have all heard the tale of the buried treasure known as the Rahee. However, we believe Branch’s true treasure lies in its rich history and great natural beauty. We invite all children, their parents and grandparents to take part in A Branch Treasure Hunt.. In Search of the Rahee, an activity designed for all to share in the wonders of Branch.

We  hope this event will provide children an opportunity to have fun while learning more of their heritage and that they take with them a love of Branch—the community we call home.”
