Branch, St. Mary’s Bay

Caroline Brennan

When morning sun shines brightly

On that village by the sea,

Sweet memories of by gone days

And scenes it brings to me,

As the sound of waves, sweet music

Their melodies relay,

It’s then, it seems, I live my dreams

In Branch, St. Mary’s Bay.

When nature dons, its spring attire

And noonday smiles o’er all,

And busy folks on sea and land

Respond to duty’s call,

From dawn till dark both young and old

With co-operative will

And dormant wealth must soon unfold

Its treasures to their skill

Your kindly Dames, whose daughters fair

Spend virtuous busy lives

In convent, school and hospitals

And happy homes ad wives

And better still your worthy sons

Have awful dangers braved,

And paid with life the supreme price

That others might be saved.

Would I could worthy be

This favour to obtain,

I’d ask God’s blessings on that spot

Forever to remain,

And brighter dawns in future years

Reflect at close of day,

The tranquil rest of spirits blest

In Branch, St. Mary’s Bay
